Jayme Damasceno dos Reis, 1958, Itabira – MG. He is a unique visual artist, he seeks to create from the sensitive, but always with the dimension of today, here, now. Always attentive to his surroundings, he lets plastic elements from the world around him flow into his work, as occurred with the great invention of his boats during his visit to Florianópolis.
Or even in the influence of popular and religious traditions in one of his exiles, which took place in the interior of Minas, in the village of Piedade. Jayme Reis also translates into a poet of letters, as we can feel in the writings presented in his testimony of life and art. In his text he presents his trajectory and the possibilities encountered throughout his artistic training, which took place in his daily life, characteristic of a self-taught artist. A restless author, but every day in a better position to occupy and tell the world his language, his art of making and transcreating the language of everyday life. The artist collects fragments of wood, waste from nets, naval scrap and other objects abandoned by fishermen, and uses them to build his pieces.
