José Paulo Oliveira, visual artist born in Recife, 1962. Over more than 30 years of professional career, he has carried out work where three-dimensionality occupies a prominent space. There are sculptures, objects and installations that portray some aspects of our current situation and personal situations. The artistic means he uses include the construction of large-format objects and sculptures.
The second half of the 90s definitely opened a path of significant artistic experimentation for the artist, and marked the most radical separation between the artist’s two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation. The applied use of other materials allowed the artist to leave the two-dimensional plane to produce objects and fill space. The large format emerged and the relationship with space assumes an important and decisive role in the execution of his works, space begins to be an integral and integrating part of his works, which for longer represent objects to be seen, but, as “pieces ” in large formats related to the spaces they occupy. At that moment the pact with ceramics was expanded, acquiring extremely conceptual aspects and the chosen themes took on symbolic dimensions.
