“Gaucha”of German origin, born in the city of Taquara. Sonia Ebling was a sculptor, painter and teacher. He began his training by taking painting and sculpture courses at the School of Fine Arts of Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro, between 1944 and 1951.
In 1955, he received the prize for traveling abroad at the National Exhibition of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. From 1956 to 1959, he traveled to several European countries, studying with Zadkine, in Paris, France. He lived in this city between 1959 and 1968 and received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Back in Brazil, he performed relief work for the Palácio dos Arcos, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Brasília, Federal District. In 1970, he taught a technical extension course, directly on cement, at the UFRGS School of Fine Arts. Six years later, she was invited to teach sculpture at the same university.
